watching pope francis speak to a joint session of congress. the next day, he resigned. although boehner claims the decision was finalized months earlier, while listening to the pope's call for a renewed spirit but wonder if the speaker was reminded just how dismal that legislative body he presides during boehner's five-year tenure as speaker, a small but group of representatives has leadership. boehner's been forced to repeatedly engage in ideologically-driven-- but politically unwinnable-- battles, one of which resulted in a damaging government shutdown in 2013. this fall promises more of the same on capitol hill. boehner has had enough. and who can blame him? whatever you may think about his leadership skills, few would accuse boehner of not caring deeply about the institution of congress. nevertheless, he knows firsthand just how far the public's respect for the house and senate has plunged. it's no coincidence that all three of the leading g.o.p.

antoinette: "5 investigates" with a mother's quest to find out how the gun used to kill her son went from a legal sale into a killer's hands. the question sounds simple. the answer often impossible to get. frank: "5 investigates" karen anderson shows us the challenge of tracing guns. kim odom: steven's life mattered. karen: eight years after her 13-year-old son steven was shot and killed while walking home in boston, a question still haunts kim odom. kim odom: where did the gun come from? kathy: odom has learned even with state-of-the-art technology and dedicated investigators, gun sales are often invisible to law enforcement. "5 investigates" was granted access to the boston police ballistics unit where analysts test firearms and compare markings to a database of thousands of images. in the crime lab, they can even raise obliterated serial numbers. while we were there, they discovered a possible link between a gun that was just turned in and a recent crime.

have the gun that did very serious crimes in the city of boston. karen: boston police commissioner william evans. commissioner: we're taking them off the street. but the terrible part is as quick as we're doing that, others are coming in. karen: this is a .357 revolver, a high-powered handgun similar to the one that killed steven odom. investigators working to determine how that gun got into the killer's hands only found one legal sale in florida back in 1981. after that the gun's path a mystery for decades. special agent: how did they get the gun? who did they get that gun from? that's what our job is. karen: the special agent in charge of the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives in boston works with police to trace crime guns, but tracking the history of a gun is no easy task because by law there's no federal gun registry. agent: that gun could have passed through a lot of hands in the last 20 years before it ultimately ended up in the hands of a criminal. kim odom: there's more

there are on the real mccoy. karen: through a.t.f. date "5 investigates" found more than half the guns linked to crimes in massachusetts originally were bought out of state. the most from new hampshire. where firearms involved in the shooting of kiley harriet and the man known as the craigslist killer were originally sold. most states, unlike massachusetts, have no requirements to document private sales of guns. john rosenthal is the founder of stop handgun violence. john rosenthal: the entire deck is stacked against law enforcement knowing where crime guns come from. commissioner: most of the guns we're recovering can't be traced to anyone because they change hands so many times. karen: police were able to find and prosecute the man who gave steven odom's killer the gun. but most of the gun's history is still unknown. kim odom: we're talking about someone's life. we're talking about a life. karen: the acting u.s. attorney

in new hampshire tells us he's aggressively prosecuting cases involving gun trafficking and karen anderson, "5 investigates." >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. danielle: i want to give you a joaquin. still a category 3 hurricane. just to the south of bermuda, effect. they're already feeling the outer edge of the rain bands. expecting 3-5 inches there. hurricane-force winds unfortunately later today. the one thing with this is it is progressing pretty quickly so it's going to pass by bermuda and then be closer to us by monday night into tuesday. but still very far off shore. not really impacting our weather. the big story for us is the temperature warm-up and more sunshine. today, however, still on the cool side. only in the mid 50's. by monday, 60. by tuesday back to seasonal average.
8:45 am
and then by wednesday 70 degrees. so warmer conditions on the way. not necessarily today though. a lot of clouds out there. some breaks of blue over boston. 53 degrees. but those winds are pumping out of the north and east. not as strong as yesterday so not really worried as much about the coast and the high tide coming at 5:06. but those winds going to keep temperatures cool. notice the gusts are up to near 30 miles an hour in boston. nantucket. so you'll feel the wind out there. today temperatures only climb into the mid to upper 50's. maybe making it to 61 degrees on nantucket. it is a mostly cloudy day. there could even be some patchy drizzle as we go through the afternoon from that on-shore wind. that stationary front though pulling farther to the south so high pressure regaining control and eventually it will clear out the clouds. but it takes its time doing so. so as we go through the day today, notice mostly cloudy skies.
8:46 am
the only exception may be southern new hampshire and then north and west of that seeing more sunshine. but we keep a couple of patchy areas of drizzle out there especially for the cape as well go through the afternoon and even into this evening and through the overnight. and even some fog out there tonight. temperatures will fall back into the 30's in spots. there actually is a frost advisory for tomorrow morning. out in western mass. you can see why as temperatures are very chilly to start monday. but as we go through the afternoon and a northerly track to the wind, we'll see temperatures warm into the low 60's, maybe even a few mid 60's out there on the map. and there is still going to be a lot of clouds out there for your monday. let me explain why. as we go through the day on monday here's what happens on our future cast. there's the hurricane. it's well off shore, but we keep clouds around especially for the eastern half of the state. there could still be a couple of areas of patchy drizzle especially in southeastern mass. but notice by monday night,
